"Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
When we consider the mentality of most Christians it is that of passivism and let's not rock the boat. When we suggest attacking the enemy or engaging in war most Christians can speak only of the love and mercy of God. Ye t, the examples of scripture demonstrate both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament that God is a God of WAR! And a God of Victory!
We tend to portray Jesus as this loving passificist walking around with a lamb under his arm smiling and wishing everyone a Good Day.
Christ casts the buyers and sellers out of the temple
(John 2:12 KJV) After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
John 2:12: Verses 12-22. The first public work in which we find Christ engaged, was driving from the temple the traders whom the covetous priests and rulers encouraged to make a market-place of its courts.
(John 2:13 KJV) And the Jews' Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
(John 2:14 KJV) And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
(John 2:15 KJV) And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
(John 2:16 KJV) And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
(John 2:17 KJV) And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
(Mat 16:18 KJV) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
In the Amplified Bible, this verse reads, "the gates of Hades shall not overpower it -- or be strong to its detriment, or hold out against it."
The advancement of Christ's kingdom shall not be hindered or overpowered by the forces of hell!
But the attitude of most Christians has been that of intimidation and fear of the enemy.
Christ was given all authority both in heaven and hell.
(Mat 11:12 KJV) And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
The Old Testament is full of attacks upon the enemy and victory!
Old Testament - Physical War
New Testament - Spiritual War
(1 Sam 17:45-51 KJV)
(1 Sam 17:45 KJV) Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
(1 Sam 17:46 KJV) This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
(1 Sam 17:47 KJV) And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands.
DAVID RUNS TO THE ENEMY!
He kills Goliath
(1 Sam 17:48 KJV) And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
But "resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Go forth to battle with the faith of David, and the powers of darkness shall not stand against you. But how often is the Christian fo
iled through an evil heart of unbelief! Who or what is your Goliath?
(1 Sam 17:49 KJV) And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth
(1 Sam 17:50 KJV) So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
(1 Sam 17:51 KJV) Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
(1 Sam 19:8 KJV) And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.
(1 Sam 23:4 KJV) Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah: for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
(1 Sam 23:5 KJV) So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
The Old Testament is full of war, battles and God's victory over His enemies! The New Testament brings us into a war and a battle in which we are engaged. We see Jesus of the N.T. not simply as the God of love and peace bu t also of war and victory over H is enemies.
Revelation 6: (v. 1-8) The opening of the seals, The first, second, third, and fourth.
(v. 9-11) The fifth.
(v. 12-17) The sixth.
Jesus riding into War!
The opening of the seals, The first, second, third, and fourth
(Rev 6:1 KJV) And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
(Rev 6:2 KJV) And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
The Apostle Paul speaks of fighting the good fight of faith.
Fight the WAR!
(1 Tim 6:12 KJV) Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
(2 Tim 4:7 KJV) I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
I firmly believe that God's desire for each Christian to become aggressive in battle and war against our enemy - Satan. Unfortunately many Christians have become comfortable and passive when it comes to battle and raging wa r on Satan and his kingdom. We seem to have lost that desire to see God's power demonstrated through our lives. Much of this has been to result of a failed theology of escapism that taught that the rapture was coming any moment to whisk us out of this wicked world. While Christians sat back looking up the world, our families, our neighborhoods and even our own personal lives have fallen victim to the continual attacks from Satan.
Today I want to declare to each of us that we don't have to take it any more! Enough is enough we have authority over sickness, disease, sin and the gates of hell can not prevail against us. But we must be willing to move out of our comfortable enclaves of these four walls and begin to attack the enemy.
The enemy of our cities and neighborhoods.Today is the day to go on the offensive and declare that Satan has no power and authority over you and your family. Satan has no right to destroy your homes. He has no rights to attack our nation or cities if we the church of Jesus Christ will stand up and attack!
The enemy of our families.
The enemy of our minds and souls.
Smite the enemy and he will flee!
(Deu 28:7 KJV) The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
We must aggressively pursue the deeper things of God. We need to aggressively pursue a closer relationship with God and the Holy Spirit. We need to aggressively pursue becoming more like Jesus Christ.
(Rev 12:10 KJV) And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them befor e our God day and night.
(Rev 12:11 KJV) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
(Rev 12:12 KJV) Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhibiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a sho rt time. Satan's time is short!
As the church engages I war we get stronger and satan gets weaker!
Rev 12:12: Verses 12-17. The church and all her friends might well be called to praise God for deliverance from pagan persecution, though other troubles awaited her. The wilderness is a desolate place, and full of serpents and scorpions, uncomfortable and destitute of provisions; yet a place of safety, as well as where one might be alone. But being thus retired could not protect the woman. The flood of water is explained by many to mean the invasions of barbarians, by whi ch the western empire was overwhelm ed; for the heathen encouraged their attacks, in the hope of destroying Christianity. But ungodly men, for their worldly interests, protected the church amidst these tumults, and the overthrow of the empire did not hel p the cause of idolatry. Or, this may be meant of a flood of error, by which the church of God was in danger of being overwhelmed and carried away. The devil, defeated in his designs upon the church, turns his rage against persons and places. Being fait hful to God and Christ, in doctrine, wors hip, and practice, exposes to the rage of Satan; and will do so till the last enemy shall be destroyed.
The Victory Is Ours If We Attack! Our Battle is not against flesh & blood!
(2 Cor 10:3 KJV) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(2 Cor 10:4 KJV) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Our weapons are mighty!
The armor of God is designed for offensive attack and battle against Satan! Our war is that of the spiritual realm. However, once the battle has been fought in the spiritual it is to be manifested in the natural. The whol e armor of God! The Blood of C hrist! The Power of the Holy Spirit! The Name of Christ! The Word of God! The Praises of God!
Example:We pray for a righteous educational system and we should. As we pray the victory is our, however, in the natural we must continue the battle by voting for a righteous school board. Everyone of us should join the Dade Coun ty PTA and voice our opinions. Y ou don't even have to have a child in the public school system to join the PTA and have your voice heard against, school based health clinics that refer students to abortions, distribute condoms! We can fight against the violence in our schools in prayer but the outward working of these prayers is to engage the enemy and he will flee and we will be victorious!
We pray for our nation and God's word declares that we should. But to pray and not to vote is a wasted prayer and hope vanquished. We not only need to vote many need to consider running for political office. When the righ teous are in rule the people rejoice!
We pray against violence and pornography and then we bring it into our homes through the TV set! We should not simply pray but we must keep the enemy out of our homes.
Moses reproves the Reubenites and Gadites
(Num 32:6 KJV) And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? Shall you sit while others go to War?
Num 32:6: Verses 6-15. The proposal showed disregard to the land of Canaan, distrust of the Lord's promise, and unwillingness to encounter the difficulties and dangers of conquering and driving out the inhabitants of that l and. Moses is wroth with them. I t will becomes any of God's Israel to sit down unconcerned about the difficult and perilous concerns of their brethren, whether public or personal. He reminds them of the fatal consequences of the unbelief and faint-heart edness of their fathers, when they were, as themselves, just ready to enter Canaan. If men considered as they ought what would be the end of sin, they would be afraid of the beginning of it.
When we don't go to war our brothers are discouraged.
(Num 32:7 KJV) And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them?
(2 Sam 22:27 KJV) With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt show thyself unsavoury.
(2 Sam 22:28 KJV) And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.
(2 Sam 22:29 KJV) For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness.
(2 Sam 22:30 KJV) For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.
(2 Sam 22:31 KJV) As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.
(2 Sam 22:32 KJV) For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?
(2 Sam 22:33 KJV) God is my strength and power: And he maketh my way perfect.
(2 Sam 22:34 KJV) He maketh my feet like hinds' feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
(2 Sam 22:35 KJV) He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
(2 Sam 22:36 KJV) Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.
(2 Sam 22:37 KJV) Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.
(2 Sam 22:38 KJV) I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.
(2 Sam 22:39 KJV) And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet.
(2 Sam 22:40 KJV) For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.
(2 Sam 22:41 KJV) Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
(2 Sam 22:42 KJV) They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.
(2 Sam 22:43 KJV) Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.
(2 Sam 22:44 KJV) Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.
(2 Sam 22:45 KJV) Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.
(2 Sam 22:46 KJV) Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.
(2 Sam 22:47 KJV) The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.
(2 Sam 22:48 KJV) It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me,
(2 Sam 22:49 KJV) And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
(2 Sam 22:50 KJV) Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.
(2 Sam 22:51 KJV) He is the tower of salvation for his king: and showeth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.
(1 Chr 12:8 KJV) And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;
We must be men and women fit for the battle! Faces like lions, when we go into battle. We are to look just like Christ - The Lion the Tribe of Judah! Run swiftly and be experts in war.
(1 Chr 12:33 KJV) Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: they were not of double heart .
Do not be double hearted.
(1 Chr 12:34 KJV) And of Naphtali a thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty and seven thousand.
(1 Chr 12:35 KJV) And of the Danites expert in war twenty and eight thousand and six hundred.
(Psa 18:34 KJV) He teacheth my hands to war , so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
The Lord will teach you how to war!
(Psa 18:35 KJV) Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.
(Psa 18:36 KJV) Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.
(Psa 18:37 KJV) I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
(Psa 18:38 KJV) I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.
(Psa 18:39 KJV) For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
(Psa 18:40 KJV) Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.
(Psa 18:41 KJV) They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.
(Psa 18:42 KJV) Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.
(Psa 18:43 KJV) Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.
(Psa 18:44 KJV) As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.
(Psa 18:45 KJV) The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places.
(Psa 18:46 KJV) The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.
(Psa 18:47 KJV) It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.
(Psa 18:48 KJV) He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
(Psa 18:49 KJV) Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.
Psalms 27: (v. 1-6) The psalmist's faith.
(v. 7-14) His desire toward God, and expectation from him.
The psalmist's faith - Whom shall we fear?
(Psa 27:1 KJV) A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psa 27:1: Verses 1-6. The Lord, who is the believer's light, is the strength of his life; not only by whom, but in whom he lives and moves. In God let us strengthen ourselves. The gracious presence of God, his power, his pr
omise, his readiness to hear pra yer, the witness of his Spirit in the hearts of his people; these are the secret of his tabernacle, and in these the saints find cause for that holy security and peace of mind in which they dwell at ease. The psalmist pra
ys for constant communion with God in holy ordinances. All God's children desire to dwell in their Father's house. Not to sojourn there as a wayfaring man, to tarry but for a night; or to dwell there for a time only, as the servant that abides not in th
e house for ever; but to dwell there a ll the days of their life, as children with a father. Do we hope that the praising of God will be the blessedness of our eternity? Surely then we ought to make it the business of our time. This he had at heart more
than any thing. Whatever the Christian is as to this life, he considers the favour and service of God as the one thing needful. This he desires, prays for and seeks after, and in it he rejoices.
(Psa 27:2 KJV) When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
(Psa 27:3 KJV) Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
(Psa 27:4 KJV) One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
(Psa 27:5 KJV) For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
(Psa 27:6 KJV) And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
Psalms 144: (v. 1-8) David acknowledges the great goodness of God, and prays for help.
(v. 9-15) He prays for the prosperity of his kingdom.
David acknowledges the great goodness of God, and prays for help
(Psa 144:1 KJV) A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:
Psa 144:1: Verses 1-8. When men become eminent for things as to which they have had few advantages, they should be more deeply sensible that God has been their Teacher. Happy those to whom the Lord gives that noblest victor
y, conquest and dominion over th eir own spirits. A prayer for further mercy is fitly begun with a thanksgiving for former mercy. There was a special power of God, inclining the people of Israel to be subject to David; it was typical of the bringing soul
s into subjection to the Lord Jesus . Man's days have little substance, considering how many thoughts and cares of a never-dying soul are employed about a poor dying body. Man's life is as a shadow that passes away. In their highest earthly exaltation, b
elievers will recollect how mean, sinf ul, and vile they are in themselves; thus they will be preserved from self-importance and presumption. God's time to help his people is, when they are sinking, and all other helps fail.
(Psa 144:2 KJV) My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.
(Psa 144:3 KJV) LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!
The obligation to maintain faith and a good conscience
(1 Tim 1:18 KJV) This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
1 Tim 1:18: Verses 18-20. The ministry is a warfare against sin and Satan; carried on under the Lord Jesus, who is the Captain of our salvation. The good hopes others have had of us, should stir us up to duty. And let us be
upright in our conduct in all things. The design of the highest censures in the primitive church, was, to prevent further sin, and to reclaim the sinner. May all who are tempted to put away a good conscience, and to abuse the gospel, remember that this i
s the way to make shipwreck of faith also.
(1 Tim 1:19 KJV) Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
James 4: (v. 1-10) Here are cautions against corrupt affections, and love of this world, which is enmity to God.
(v. 11-17) Exhortations to undertake no affairs of life, without constant regard to the will and providence of God.
Here are cautions against corrupt affections, and love of this world, which is enmity to God
(James 4:1 KJV) From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
James 4:1: Verses 1-10. Since all wars and fightings come from the corruptions of our own hearts, it is right to mortify those lusts that war in the members. Worldly and fleshly lusts are distempers, which will not allow co
ntent or satisfaction. Sinful de sires and affections stop prayer, and the working of our desires toward God. And let us beware that we do not abuse or misuse the mercies received, by the disposition of the heart when prayers are granted When men ask of
God prosperity, they often ask with wrong aims and intentions. If we thus seek the things of this world, it is just in God to deny them. Unbelieving and cold desires beg denials; and we may be sure that when prayers are rather the language of lusts than
of graces, they will return empty. He re is a decided warning to avoid all criminal friendships with this world. Worldly-mindedness is enmity to God. An enemy may be reconciled, but "enmity" never can be reconciled.
A man may have a large portion in things of this life, and yet be kept in the love of God; but he who sets his heart upon the world, who will conform to it rather than lose its friendship, is an enemy to God. So that any one who resolves at all events t
o be upon friendly terms with the world, must be the enemy of God. Did then the J ews, or the loose professors of Christianity, think the Scripture spake in vain against this worldly-mindedness? or does the Holy Spirit who dwells in all Christians, or th
e new nature which he creates, produce such fruit? Natural corruption shows itself b y envying. The spirit of the world teaches us to lay up, or lay out for ourselves, according to our own fancies; God the Holy Spirit teaches us to be willing to do good
to all about us, as we are able. The grace of God will correct and cure the spirit by n ature in us; and where he gives grace, he gives another spirit than that of the world. The proud resist God: in their understanding they resist the truths of God; in
their will they resist the laws of God; in their passions they resist the providence of Go d; therefore, no wonder that God resists the proud. How wretched the state of those who make God their enemy! God will give more grace to the humble, because they
see their need of it, pray for it are thankful for it, and such shall have it. Submit to God, vs. 7. Submit your understanding to the truth of God; submit your wills to the will of his precept, the will of his providence. Submit yourselves to God, for h
e is ready to do you good. If we yield to temptations, the devil will continually follow us; but if we put on the whole armor of God, and stand out against him, he will leave us. Let sinners then submit to God, and seek his grace and favour; resisting t
he devil. All sin must be wept over; here, in godly sorrow, or, hereafter, in eternal misery. And the Lord will not refuse to comfort one who really mourns for sin, or to exalt one who humbles himself before him.
(James 4:2 KJV) Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
(James 4:3 KJV) Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
(James 4:4 KJV) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
(James 4:5 KJV) Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Holy conversation among the Gentiles directed - Fight the war against your soul - fleshly lusts.
(1 Pet 2:11 KJV) Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
Resist the devil and he will flee!
1 Pet 2:11: Verses 11-12. Even the best of men, the chosen generation, the people of God, need to be exhorted to keep from the worst sins. And fleshly lusts are most destructive to man's soul. It is a sore judgment to be gi
ven up to them. There is a day o f visitation coming, wherein God may call to repentance by his word and his grace; then many will glorify God, and the holy lives of his people will have promoted the happy change.
(Rev 17:14 KJV) These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
A vision of Christ going forth to destroy the beast and his armies
(Rev 19:11 KJV) And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
Rev 19:11: Verses 11-21. Christ, the glorious Head of the church, is described as on a white horse, the emblem of justice and holiness. He has many crowns, for he is King of kings, and Lord of lords. He is arrayed in a vest
ure dipped in his own blood, by which he purchased his power as Mediator; and in the blood of his enemies, over whom he always prevails. His name is "The Word of God;" a name none fully knows but himself; only this we
know, that this Word was God manifest in the flesh; but his perfection s cannot be fully understood by any creature. Angels and saints follow, and are like Christ in their armor of purity and righteousness. The threatenings of the written word he is goi
ng to execute on his enemies. The ensigns of his authority are his name; a sserting his authority and power, warning the most powerful princes to submit, or they must fall before him. The powers of earth and hell make their utmost effort. These verses de
clare important events, foretold by the prophets. These persons were not excu sed because they did what their leaders bade them. How vain will be the plea of many sinners at the great day! We followed our guides; we did as we saw others do! God has given
a rule to walk by, in his word; neither the example of the most, nor of the chi ef, must influence us contrary thereto: if we do as the most do, we must go where the most go, even into the burning lake.
(Rev 19:12 KJV) His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
(Rev 19:13 KJV) And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
(Rev 19:14 KJV) And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
(Rev 19:15 KJV) And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
(Rev 19:16 KJV) And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
(Rev 19:17 KJV) And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
(Rev 19:18 KJV) That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and
great.
(Rev 19:19 KJV) And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
